Hey guys, still buzzing from Friday night, but there’s a few things you should know about. Firstly: you might have seen the announcement in the Sunday bulletin – I know you guys love reading those – but there’s a “Baptism Sunday” coming up in a little over a month (9th July). I spoke with you guys a few weeks ago about Baptism stuff, and we’ve already got a couple of people keen to get dunked, but if there’s any others who either want to sign up, or just want to chat about what it all means: please let us know.
Secondly, this week’s “Going Deeper: A Worship Experience” will include some highly sought after musical guests, as well as an international visitor. Kevin Butterfield (you can check out his MySpace here) – our very-almost-here senior pastor guy will be dropping in, so it could be a good chance to tell him everything you want the church to do before the old people get in and ruin everything
. And our music will come from some members of the older half of the youth group – it’ll be a night to remember.
Hello crew!
Thanks for coming on Friday – the turn-out was huge and your slums were really quite creative!
For those who weren’t there, we ’slummed it up’ (as someone said) to get a better understanding of what it’s like for a large majority of the world and after a few hours of; ‘bad weather’, thieves, boring work and a very bland dinner of rice we came inside and had a great chat about what we can actually do to help. We floated ideas of sponsoring a child, doing operation Christmas Child, volunteering at a soup kitchen, fundraising and all sorts of other fantastic ideas. Keep bugging us about them and let us know which ones you really want to do.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
-Isaiah 61:1

What is a slum?
A slum is a district of a city or town which is usually inhabited by the very poor or socially disadvantaged. Slums can be found in most large cities around the world.

How can you help?
Pray!
Serve!
Give!
Go!
And if you’ve got any more stories about any of this stuff or what you’ve been thinking about since Friday, we’d love to hear them!
This week’s activity needs you to arrive at the church at 7:00 - not the usual 7:30. I can’t tell you too much – but it will be related to the big church’s “Mission Week”. Also, it would be good if you could bring cardboard boxes, plastic sheeting, maybe even a tarp if you’ve got them lying around. That would be great!
You should have received one already, but if you don’t I’ve uploaded the program as a PDF file – so you can download and print your own!
